West Ham star Kurt Zouma was "up being sick in the night" before Leicester game
West Ham boss David Moyes has revealed that Kurt Zouma was "up being sick in the night" prior to their match against Leicester on Sunday night.
The Frenchman is under fire after a video emerged showing him kicking his cat and hitting the pet out of his child's arms.
It has caused widespread outrage while the RSPCA have since taken his two cats from his house and Essex police have launched an investigation.
And Moyes was also in the firing line after naming Zouma in his starting team to face Watford last week, a match in which West Ham won 1-0.
The centre-back was in the side to face Leicester as well but pulled out minutes before kick-off after an injury in the warm-up.
His replacement, Issa Diop, proved crucial after his ball over the top found Jarrod Bowen for the opener in a match that ended 2-2.
And after the match, Moyes went into detail over Zouma's condition where he admitted that the defender was far from 100 per-cent.
The Scotsman said: "I thought Issa Diop played really well.
"He was made aware he had a chance of playing because Kurt was not well last night and was sick during the night, and did not eat with us today and stayed out of the meeting.
"We did that not because we were worried just in case it was a Covid symptom.
"But it has been sickness and he just could not make it and he was really desperate to play."
When asked if Moyes expected Zouma back for next week's match against Newcastle, he added: "It was a sickness virus so I would expect so. It was sickness so I hope so."
