Declan Rice has become one of England’s most sought-after players in the last few years after some exemplary performances for both West Ham and England, resulting in continued reported interest from Manchester United amongst others.

Rice, 22, joined West Ham in 2014 after being released by Chelsea after apparently falling short of the level required at Cobham.

But after making his debut for the Hammers in 2017, the London-born midfielder has gone from strength-to-strength at the London Stadium, marking his name as one of England’s best young players in an incredibly resilient David Moyes outfit.

Rice and Czech midfielder Tomas Soucek have created a formidable pairing in central midfield, guiding West Ham to their first Europa League campaign in five seasons after falling just short of the Champions League.

But after failing to qualify for Europe’s premier competition, Rice is keen to play football in the world’s most famous club competition, ESPN suggest.

United fans were itching for their club to sign a new central midfielder this summer despite their moneybags signings.

Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo all signed for a combined £135million in some key additions to either end of the pitch for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

But after failing to secure a central midfielder, United fans won’t be immensely satisfied at their transfer window dealing despite adding three world-class players.

Fred and Nemanja Matic continue to plague United’s midfield with poor defensive work, leaving Scott McTominay as the only decent defensive midfield option.

And, with Donny van de Beek being exiled by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, there is a burning need to add some quality defensive steel.

The report by ESPN claims that a striker and midfielder are on United’s list for improvements next summer.

And West Ham would reportedly lower their asking price for the England international, who scored his second goal in for Gareth Southgate’s men in the 4-0 win over Hungary on Thursday.

Further to the report, ESPN also claim that their sources have suggest Rice is keen to play Champions League football.

And with Chelsea also interested in a deal to bring back Rice, it could well be that he makes a move to a top-four club next summer – should West Ham not qualify for the Champions League.

The Hammers have started this season on fire, winning two of their three Premier League games and scoring ten goals in the process.

And with the signings of Kurt Zouma and Nikola Vlasic, there may be enough quality for them to stay in the top four.
