West Ham fans were left drenched ahead of their side’s Europa League opener on Thursday night following some heavy downpour at the London Stadium.

The Hammers will kick-off their 2023-24 European campaign with a home clash against Serbian outfit TSC Backa Topola.

However, ahead of kick-off fans in east London were left running for cover after heavy rain threatened to put a dampener on the affair.

Fans shared videos of their experience on social media, with one video showing how the torrential rain had flooded into one of the concourses.

Despite the extreme weather conditions pre-match, the rain eased up just before kick-off and it had no effect on the evening’s game.

Fans online joked that the London Stadium now boasted a new ‘waterfall feature’ after sharing videos of the rain pouring off the stadium roof.

David Moyes will be hoping that the adverse weather conditions will have no effect on their Europa League opener or their campaign.

The Irons come into the season off the back of their historic Europa Conference League victory last year and will look to repeat similar successes.

The Hammers nearly won the competition back in 2022 but were knocked out in the semi-final to German side Eintracht Frankfurt.

In the first match of their 2023-24 campaign, they’ll take on little-known Serbian side TSC Backa Topola – who currently sit top of the Serbian Super Liga.

In other Hammers news, free agent Jesse Lingard was pictured training with West Ham ahead of their Europa League clash.

Lingard was released by Nottingham Forest this summer, less than a year after he joined the club and became their top earner – and the player has since been training with the Hammers.

He was pictured being put through his paces with the rest of the squad as they prepare for the start of their Europa League campaign – having won the UEFA Conference League last season.

Despite the downpour, West Ham’s match with TSC Backa Topola still went ahead
