Jesse Lingard will not hold talks with Manchester United over his future until he returns for pre-season training next month – leaving West Ham with a tense wait in their pursuit of the midfielder.
Lingard, 28, spent the second half of last season on loan with the Hammers and rediscovered his best form, scoring nine goals in 16 appearances.
As a result, David Moyes is desperate to bring him back to the London Stadium on a permanent basis this summer.
But according to reports, Lingard will not be addressing his United future until he returns to the club for the start of pre-season training next month.
The England star, who failed to make it into Gareth Southgate's Euro 2020 squad this summer, has already held initial talks with Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
It is believed Solskjaer is open to giving him a chance to prove himself in pre-season, which will come as bad news for West Ham.

Lingard is reportedly hoping to revive his United career and become a valued member of the first-team squad again next season.
The Hammers will therefore be hoping Solskjaer deems him surplus to requirements in pre-season, which would set the wheels in motion for a permanent switch to east London.
Paris St-Germain are also understood to be keeping tabs on Lingard, but Moyes and co are frontrunners in the race to sign him.
United reportedly value him at around £30million, with only a year remaining on his current contract at Old Trafford.
Lingard fell out of favour under Solskjaer following the £67million signing of Bruno Fernandes back in January 2020.
