Werner sends message to Chelsea fans after being abused at open training session
Timo Werner has thanked Chelsea fans for their support after he was abused during the club’s open training session on Wednesday.
Chelsea’s players trained in front of their supporters at Stamford Bridge and gave the people in attendance the chance to see the Champions League and Super Cup trophies, as well a glimpse of their new £97.5 million signing Romelu Lukaku in action.
However, after the session had ended one Chelsea fan abused Werner over the stadium’s PA system when supporters were given the chance to give their score prediction for the team’s upcoming Premier League match against Arsenal on Sunday.
After being handed the microphone, the Chelsea fan said: ‘Let’s have it right, get Werner out the club.’
The statement was met with gasps and boos from the other Chelsea supporters in the stand, while one woman angrily stood up and told the man: ‘You get out! Who are you? Who do you think you are? Get out!’
It’s unclear if Werner heard the fan’s comment as Chelsea’s players were stood by the dugout on the opposite side of the pitch.

And in his message to Chelsea supporters after the session, Werner made no reference to the incident as he posted on Twitter: ‘Thanks for all the love and support I received today, Blues fans! Really appreciate it.’
Werner joined Chelsea in a £47.5m deal from RB Leipzig last year but was guilty of missing several big chances during his first season in the Premier League.
The Germany international ended the campaign with just 12 goals in 54 appearances and is now facing a battle to play as the focal point in Chelsea’s attack following the arrival of Lukaku.
‘Now it’s on him. Like always it’s on him to show his quality and his ability.
‘It’s very hard to have a first match, first 45 minutes after a tough week that we put into the players, to play on this kind of level.
‘I’m happy that he was dangerous but there were some chances where he could be more decisive, could have scored could have assisted another one or two.
‘It’s a bit the same, like in the last games, but like I said, we’ve just started and it’s not the moment to blame.’
