Werner admits he is not 'satisfied' at Chelsea after 'difficult' start
Timo Werner admits he is not ‘satisfied’ at Chelsea following ‘difficult’ start to the season… but insists decision to hire new agent is not an indication of a desire to join Bayern Munich
- Timo Werner has started just three Premier League games for Chelsea this term
- He only scored his first goal of the season last weekend in Southampton win
- But despite his ‘difficult’ start to the season, he is not looking to leave the club
- Werner split from agent Karlheinz Forster and hired Volker Struth in August
- But German insists that has nothing to do with angling for Bayern Munich move
Timo Werner has admitted he is not ‘satisfied’ with the amount of game time he has seen at Chelsea this season, but insists he is not looking to leave.
The 25-year-old has started just three of the Blues’ seven Premier League games so far in 2021-22, and only got off the mark for the season at the weekend in the 3-1 win against Southampton.
The Germany international also saw a 16th Blues goal disallowed in the same game – his sixth top-flight match of the season – which added more misfortune that has no doubt contributed to him scoring only 14 goals in 60 appearances for Thomas Tuchel’s men.

But despite a ‘difficult’ start to the season and the desire to become a regular in Tuchel’s team currently going unfulfilled, the former RB Leipzig striker admits he is not ready to call it quits even if things do not change before Christmas.
‘The last few weeks have been difficult at Chelsea. After many years, I was suddenly a little behind and had to fight my way again,’ he told German outlet Express.de.
‘A career always goes up and down, never steadily upwards. But you learn to deal with it.
‘I have to bite into it again, that challenges me. Of course, I would like to enjoy more minutes, so I give my best in training.
But the German insists he will keep fighting to break his way into Thomas Tuchel’s side
‘Of course, I can’t be satisfied if I don’t play. Of course, I want to be a regular in a big team. But I’m not saying that if I don’t start 10 or 15 games before Christmas, I really want to leave.
‘Things happen relatively quickly in football. I have to look at the bigger picture to make my decision.’
In August, Werner split from Karlheinz Forster, his agent for nine years, and joined Volker Struth’s Sports360, a Cologne-based company.
Struth represents Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann, as well as their centre-backs Dayot Upamecano and Niklas Sule, and reports this month have linked the German striker with a move to the Bundesliga champions, among others.

Yet Werner insists hiring Volker had nothing to do with angling for a move back to his native country, but instead because he wanted a fresh outlook on his career.
‘I didn’t choose Volker because he has some players and the coach in Munich,’ Werner added.
‘I repositioned myself with him to get a new perspective on my career. This should not be interpreted as a hint for or against Bayern.
‘It just worked out well between us. It wasn’t about which club might be of interest to me in the future.
‘It was just about the interpersonal basis. The cooperation so far has been very good.’

Werner however will hope to build on the goal he scored against the Saints once he returns from Germany’s World Cup qualifiers against Romania and North Macedonia during the ongoing international break.
He was delighted to net his first top-flight goal of the season at the weekend, adding that his disallowed goal following Cesar Azpilcueta’s foul on Kyle Walker-Peters in the build-up, followed by scoring one that stood, summed up his Blues career to date.
‘I was very happy to score and help the team,’ Werner told Chelsea TV after the match. ‘In the first half, it was the story of my whole Chelsea career in one game a little bit!
‘It was obviously not so clear because it took the referee a while to make his decision. Maybe 50/50. We have to accept it, I had to accept it, and in the end, I was happy I could score again and we won the game.
‘It was a very important win after losing the last two. It was a very tough game for us because Southampton did very well.’
