‘We are entering SUAREZ ZONE!’: Luis Suarez’s agent shares WhatsApp chat from November when the striker vowed to get Uruguay to the World Cup with his side SEVENTH in qualifying… before three goals in four games helped book Qatar spot

It wasn’t always straightforward, but even in the hardest moments Luis Suarez didn’t doubt that Uruguay would qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Uruguay and Suarez rounded off their qualifying campaign with a 2-0 win against Chile on Tuesday night with their place in the tournament already secure. Suarez scored on the night, along with Federico Valverde.

And as attention turned firmly to the tournament itself Suarez’s representative, Martin Rodriguez, shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation with the striker back in November, with Uruguay languishing in seventh place in the South American qualifying table.

Suarez since scored three goals in four qualifiers as Uruguay booked a place in Qatar 

But Suarez offered a bullish assertion to Rodriguez over his country’s chances of playing in the World Cup, saying: “We are entering SUAREZ ZONE’.

And after Rodriguez shared the image on Twitter on Tuesday, Suarez himself replied with: ‘I told you’ alongside several crying with laughter emojis. 

Rodriguez replied by saying he would save the messages and added: ‘After we qualify, I will make them viral’. 

And the Atletico Madrid star has practiced what he preached. Since then, he has scored three goals in the final four Uruguay appearances in qualifying and has a ticket booked for Qatar later in the year.

Uruguay finished third in the qualifying table, with Argentina second and Brazil first. Peru are the other South American side to reach the World Cup.

Suarez and Uruguay will now turn their attention to Friday’s World Cup draw in Qatar

Tuesday’s win over Chile was Suarez’s 132nd cap for Uruguay, and his goal was his 68th for his country.

After the match, Suarez had a picture taken holding his shirt aloft with the caption: ‘Special night, special match, special shirt and with a goal. What more can I ask for to live unique and unforgettable moments with MY COUNTRY?’.

Suarez and Uruguay will now turn their attention to Friday’s World Cup draw, where they will learn their group opponents for November’s tournament.
