Wayne Rooney responds to speculation DC United are set to sign former Utd star

DC United boss Wayne Rooney insists the club hold no interest in signing Jesse Lingard on a free transfer.

The ex-Manchester United ace is a free agent after leaving Nottingham Forest at the end of the season.

The midfielder was a team-mate of Rooney’s for three years at Old Trafford as he broke into the first-team before the former United skipper’s departure in 2017.

Lingard’s career has gone downhill in the last three years but he’s just 30 years of age.

The winger would listen to offers to move to Major League Soccer and he wouldn’t need to be listed as a designated player.

However, Rooney says the east coast side have no intention of signing Lingard.

‘The Jesse Lingard [rumour]?’ Rooney said.

‘I don’t know where that has come from. From my point of view we have no interest in signing him

‘We are obviously looking, there is a few players we have identified who we will work hard to try and bring in and there is things we can move round to try and do that.

‘We have to be at our best, work at our best and we have to find the best way to free money up to bring players in.’
