Wayne Rooney has hailed fantastic wonderkid set to complete Liverpool transfer
Liverpool are expected to pay £1million to Derby County for teenage wonderkid Kaide Gordon, and Wayne Rooney is a big fan of the creative midfielder.
The Reds are set to confirm the signing of the 16-year-old today, as the Englishman becomes Liverpool’s first signing of the January transfer window.
Gordon made his first-team debut earlier this season, coming on as a last-minute substitute against Birmingham City.
He is considered to be one of the brightest prospects to come through the Derby academy system in recent years, and Rooney believes he’ll go on to be a great player.
The Everton icon discussed Gordon earlier this season, and expressed his admiration for the youngster.
Having handed Gordon his first-team debut at Derby, Rooney admitted he would ultimately be powerless to decide the youngster’s future.
"Kaide is a fantastic player and he has got a lot of potential,” he said.

"He has come through the academy. He is 16, he has got a lot of development to do and he is definitely at the right place to do that.
"Of course there will be interest in Kaide because he is a fantastic player, so we expect there to be interest in him.
"We can control what we are doing at this football club, but we can't control if other teams make bids for our players."
Liverpool have been fairly quiet in the January transfer market so far, and Gordon will likely become their only signing of the window.
He was named Derby’s academy player of the year last season, and at the time was labelled the club’s most creative young player.
Derby’s academy director, Darren Wassall, said of Gordon: “Kaide was the most exciting and creative player throughout the year and has shown a real improvement both in and out of possession, but we believe there is more to come too."
