Wayne Rooney has confirmed Derby County’s interest in raiding Manchester United and Manchester City for a trio of youngsters to bolster the Rams’ squad for the 2021-22 campaign.
The Championship outfit get their season underway against Huddersfield today, with Rooney intent on keeping the East Midlands club away from the drop zone after flirting with relegation in 2020-21.
Off-field issues has seen Rooney left with a small playing squad, with the former England and United star in need of fresh faces to stave off a relegation fight for a second season running.

The Rams boss is in need of several additions as the club seek to avoid a relegation battle
And the 35-year-old has revealed that the Rams are looking to bring in James Garner and Teden Mengi from United, as well as City starlet Liam Delap.
‘Of course we have been doing our homework,’ Rooney told DerbyshireLive.
‘Liam Delap is a player I really like. He has connections with Derby, he came through the Academy here.
‘Whatever Manchester City are doing with Liam, we are on top of that also and with James Garner and Teden Mengi, different players from different clubs we are on top if it.

Derby are also looking at Man City’s Liam Delap, who spent a decade with the second tier side
‘Ultimately it is on those clubs to see us as a suitable club for their players to go to and develop, so we have to wait and see on those players.’
Mengi enjoyed a loan spell at Derby last season, making nine appearances for the club during his short stay, while Garner boasts Championship experience having spent time on loan with Nottingham Forest and Watford.
Delap is no stranger to Pride Park, either, having spent a decade with the club before being snapped up by City in 2019. The 18-year-old has not featured in pre-season as he continues to recover from an injury.
