Watford have parted company with manager Xisco Munoz after defeat by Leeds on Saturday.
Munoz became the club's fifth permanent coach in two years when he replaced Vladimir Ivic in December 2020.
He turned results around at Vicarage Road, leading the Hornets back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Life back in the top-flight has started ok for Watford with two wins, a draw and four defeats from their opening seven matches.
But that hasn't been enough to save Munoz, who departs after a lacklustre defeat to Leeds at Elland Road.
Veteran goalkeeper Ben Foster described the result as a "1-0 battering."
In a statement on Sunday morning, the club said: "The Board feels recent performances strongly indicate a negative trend at a time when team cohesion should be visibly improving.
"The Hornets will always be grateful to Xisco for the part he played in securing last season's promotion and wish him well for his future career in football.
"No further club comment will be available until the imminent announcement of a new Head Coach."
The majority of Watford fans are in agreement that Munoz needed to go.
One said: "it was coming tbf, shocking performance yesterday."

Someone else added: "Probably one of the most likeable managers we’ve had in the Pozzo era but football is a ruthless game and if thinks aren’t working out then unfortunately a change has to be made."
A third supporter commented: "#ThankYouXisco sad for him but the right decision at this point."
While another claimed Munoz was out of his depth, saying: "Right decision. Being a nice bloke ain’t good enough. Way out of his depth and yesterday summed it up."
Watford are now on the lookout for their 15th permanent manager since Italian businessman Giampaolo Pozzo assumed ownership of the club in 2012.
