Watford fans in hysterics as 24-year-old signing "looks older than Roy Hodgson"

Watford fans were in hysterics after their new 24-year-old signing was pictured in training alongside 74-year-old Roy Hodgson.

The Hornets this week sacked Claudio Ranieri and brought in the experienced former England boss, who they hope can secure their Premier League safety.

Despite the change in manager, their business in the January transfer window, which already included three signings, continued as normal.

The latest face through the door, Samuel Kalu, arrived on Wednesday – but after seeing him, the club's supporters felt there was no way he could be 50 years younger than his new gaffer.

One questioned: "How is this dude 24?"

"If Kalu is 24 then Roy’s 28," claimed another.

A third said "he’s never 24 years old, no chance" and a fourth added "not having it he's in his 20's".

"How does he look older than Roy," asked a fellow bemused Watford fan.

And one joked: "More Kanu than Kalu. Definitely not 24."

The Nigerian winger, who signed on a three-and-a-half year deal from French club Bordeaux, was born in 1997, though.

The claims from the Hornets fanbase come in the same week that former Newcastle defender Chancel Mbemba was accused of lying about his age.

He was first investigated in 2013 after four different birth dates emerged for the 27-year-old (or so we think).

Mbemba took bone tests when moving to the Premier League to prove his age, but Portuguese outlet Corriero de Manha claim he has told friends he was born in 1990, and not '94.

Porto are said to be considering not handing him a new contract as a result of him possibly being four years older than previously thought.

Mbemba, who plays for the DR Congo national team, is one of many footballers who have been accused of lying about their age.

One of the most well documented cases was former Manchester United and Chelsea loanee Radamel Falcao, who was also claimed to be older than he said.
