Warnock suggests Kane would have better trophy chances at Newcastle

Neil Warnock suggests Harry Kane would have a better chance of winning trophies with Saudi-backed Newcastle than at Tottenham… but he claims the England skipper would cost the Magpies a staggering £250MILLION

  • Harry Kane has endured a glittering career with Tottenham, scoring 265 goals
  • But the England skipper has failed to win a trophy with his boyhood side
  • Neil Warnock claimed he would have a better chance of success with Newcastle
  • However, the former manager insisted the Spurs star would not come cheap

Neil Warnock has claimed Harry Kane would have more chance of winning trophies with Newcastle than he currently does at Tottenham.

Kane, 29, has spent his whole career with Spurs having come through their youth academy.

He is one of their greatest ever players having scored 265 goals – one fewer than Tottenham’s all-time record goalscorer Jimmy Greaves.

Neil Warnock argued Harry Kane would have a better chance of winning trophies at Newcastle

Kane is also level with Wayne Rooney as England’s all-time record goalscorer, but while he has won several individual honours over the years he has never won a senior trophy.

The striker has come close on several occasions, with Spurs losing in the Carabao Cup final in 2014-15 and 2020-21, while they were also defeated by Liverpool in the 2018-19 Champions League final.

With England, Kane was a runner-up at Euro 2020 and he missed a decisive penalty in the Three Lions quarter-final defeat to France in Qatar last month.

And Warnock believes the 29-year-old – who has repeatedly outlined his desperation to win trophies – would be better suited to achieving this aim with Newcastle who have been transformed since their Saudi-backed takeover in October 2021.

When asked if this would be the case, the retired manager told talkSPORT: ‘Yes that’s probably right.

Kane is one of Tottenham’s greatest players  ever but he has never won a trophy with them

Warnock argued Newcastle are destined for future success but Kane would cost them £250m

‘Especially with the future coming up. I tipped them (Newcastle) in pre-season to finish in the top four but they’ve just sustained that.

‘The defensive situation is as good as I’ve seen against a very good Arsenal team (Newcastle drew 0-0 with the Gunners last week).’

Kane almost departed his boyhood club in the summer of 2021 when he outlined his desire to leave Tottenham.

Manchester City submitted an offer for the forward but it was rejected out of hand –  and after he had failed to turn up to pre-season and missed his side’s first two games of the campaign – he eventually announced he would be staying in north London.

And Warnock referenced that failed move and insisted if Newcastle did move for the England skipper, it would take a ludicrous amount of money.

The England skipper is second in Spurs’ all-time top goalscorers list with 265 career goals

He added: ‘I always thought Man City, if they could have got Kane last year. But look what they’ve done instead – I mean “wow” – Haaland is unbelievable isn’t he.

‘If Newcastle could get Kane that would be fantastic but that’s going to cost… imagine dealing with Daniel Levy over Harry Kane – that’s going to cost £250m isn’t it.’

Tottenham secured their place in the FA Cup Fourth Round after defeating Portsmouth 1-0 on Saturday thanks to Kane’s goal, while they also remain in the Champions League in their hunt for silverware.

Meanwhile, Newcastle face Leicester City on Tuesday evening in the Carabao Cup quarter-final – as Eddie Howe’s side continue their quest to secure their first major trophy since the FA Cup in the 1954-55 season – although they have won the Championship (twice) and the Intertoto Cup in the meantime.
