Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr has revealed that he believes France are favourites to win the World Cup in Qatar, but states his Brazil side will be among their chief challengers.
As club football begins to wind down ahead of next month’s tournament, the 22-year-old faces the prospect of his first appearance at the finals and believes Brazil have a squad ready to compete for the famous trophy.
‘It is going to be a very special World Cup for me and for everyone with high hopes for Brazil. After so long, to have a strong team – it is important for us,’ Vinicius told SPORTbible.

Brazil head to the Gulf state as favourites to lift the World Cup and whilst Vinicius remains confident in his team-mates to deliver a sixth title, he insists holders France are still the team to beat.
‘It’s a little bit difficult, right? The best team is always the team that won the last World Cup,’ Vinicius added.
‘I think France are the best at the moment. But at the World Cup that can change and there are a lot of teams with a good chance of winning. Argentina is doing very well, Brazil, England, Germany… they are all teams that will be strong in this World Cup – and may Brazil win!
Since winning a record fifth title 20 years ago, Brazil have struggled to make much of an impression at the World Cup.

Despite reaching the semi-finals on home soil in 2014, their run will forever be marred by the 7-1 thrashing by Germany in the last four that stunned fans around the world.
Vinicius will now likely be part of one of Brazil’s most feared attacking line-ups in recent years at his first World Cup where he will likely feature alongside Neymar.
The Real Madrid star heads into November having made a steady start to the new season with eight goals from 17 games across all competitions for Real.
However, Vinicius, who scored the Champions League final winner over Liverpool back in May has hit a mini-goal drought having not scored in his last four LaLiga games stretching back to a 1-1 draw against Osasuna at the start of October and will be looking to improve ahead of the trip to Qatar.
