Vincent Kompany made U-turn on player’s Burnley contract ‘while he showered’
Andros Townsend had a Burnley contract brutally taken off the table while he was in the shower after passing his medical.
The 32-year-old, who hasn't kicked a ball competitively since suffering an ACL injury while playing for Everton in March 2022, had been training with the Clarets all summer and took part in several of their pre-season matches.
He was told he'd be handed a contract after impressing coaches and went through all the formalities before finding out Burnley boss Vincent Kompany had changed his mind at the last minute.
"I was offered a one-year deal and went for my medical straight away," Townsend told talkSPORT. "Passed the medical, I thought, 'Right, I'm ready to sign', I'm in the shower ready to go to the CEO after my shower and go and say, 'Shall I wait around, is the contract almost ready?'

"As I'm in the shower, somebody from the coaching staff pulls me and says, 'Andros, the manager wants to see you in his office whenever you're done'.
"So I went and got dressed, went up to the managers' office and for one reason or another, the contract was no longer on the table for reasons I didn't understand."
"It's a decision I didn't agree with but that's life, we shook hands, we hugged it out, we went our separate ways and now I'm back here looking for another opportunity."

Townsend said he's still holding out for an offer from a Premier League side and insisted he's prepared to wait a few weeks to get his wish.
"I want to see the season start, clubs maybe need a winger, might have injuries, might realise they're short in that area, might need my services. So I'm going to wait probably a week or so to see if there's any Premier League options," he added.
Townsend has played 264 games in the Premier League across spells with Tottenham, QPR, Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Everton, scoring 40 goals. He also earned 13 caps for England, all which came between 2013 and 2016.
