Vincent Kompany emerges as Spurs’ ‘first choice’ as boss after Burnley heroics
Vincent Kompany has emerged as Tottenham's first choice to replace Antonio Conte, according to reports.
Spurs have been without a permanent manager since Conte's exit last month. The fiery Italian disappointed as Nuno Espirito Santo's successor, failing to bring trophies to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He also attracted criticism for his negative style of play and found himself at odds with the club's fans and board towards the end of his reign.
His assistant, Cristian Stellini, is currently in temporary charge of the north Londoners until the end of the season. But that could end soon with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy reportedly eyeing Kompany as the man who can reinvigorate the club.

According to The Sun, Kompany is now the club's first choice to become boss. Tottenham chiefs are said to have received "glowing reports" of the Belgian's ability after he guided Burnley back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
The Clarets confirmed their return to the top-flight last week and have been labelled by many as the greatest Championship team ever. Kompany's side are on course to clock up over 100 points, having only lost two league games this season.

However, Kompany he may not lead them into the Premier League if reports are to be believed. It is claimed that Spurs have watched how Mikel Arteta has transformed Arsenal into title contenders after working as Pep Guardiola's no.2 at Manchester City.
And they now want some of the same from Kompany, who spent many years as City's captain under Guardiola before going into management.
The 37-year-old certainly knows what it takes to win the Premier League, having won two of his four top-flight titles under his old boss, who has tipped him as a potential future City boss.
Interestingly, it is believed that Kompany is ready to listen if Spurs make a move for him in the summer. If he chooses to swap the Clarets for the Lilywhites, Kompany could be going into a club playing Champions League football next season, with Stellini's men three points adrift of the top four.
