Villa’s Bailey ‘accused of assaulting fan in selfie row after Everton victory’
Aston Villa's star Leon Bailey is being investigated after being accused of assaulting assault a fan following his side's 4-0 win over Everton.
The alleged incident is said to have occurred after the game at Villa Park. According to the Daily Mail, Bailey is being investigated by West Midlands Police after being accused of shoving a fan to the ground in the corporate boxes.
The report claims the fan had asked Bailey for a picture with his son, who was at the match to celebrate his fifth birthday, but after the Jamaican refused to take the snap – he shoved the fan to the ground.
The alleged incident was captured on CCTV at Villa Park and was reportedly seen by numerous witnesses. West Midlands police confirmed to the Daily Mail they are investigating the incident, and the fan gave a statement at the scene.
The report continues that security officers on site at Villa Park contacted the police over the alleged incident. Aston Villa are also investigating the incident.
West Midlands Police told the Athletic: "We're investigating after a man at Aston Villa Football Club was allegedly assaulted at just after 5pm yesterday (Sunday).
"Officers will be speaking to all those involved and we are liaising with officials at the club to establish the full circumstances. Enquiries are ongoing."
Bailey had been the star of the show during the game – bagging a goal and an assist as Aston Villa picked up their first points of the season.
Speaking after the game, Villa boss Unai Emery said: "Always when we win we are happy. Today was very good, first match at home. Our supporters were brilliant. They connect here with us.
“Today I want to especially mention this victory for Emi Buendia and Tyrone Mings because we were remembering them before the match and trying to bring this victory for them.
"We were keeping a good balance for the 90 minutes, but of course I’m going to be very demanding and in some areas we can improve."
