Lucas Vazquez has paid tribute to Raphael Varane on social media ahead of the Frenchman’s expected move to Manchester United.

The World Cup winning defender is set to complete his £42million transfer to Old Trafford in the coming days, after a decade with Real Madrid.

During his time at the Bernabeu, Varane has won 18 trophies, including four Champions Leagues and three La Ligas.

Since joining the club from Lens in 2011, he has gone on to establish himself as one of the best centre backs in the world.

His soon-to-be former team-mate Vazquez took to Instagram to bid farewell and wish him good luck, after playing alongside each other for the last six years.

He said: “It has been a great pleasure to play with you during these years, thank you for everything we have achieved together and what we have experienced. We will miss you amigo, I wish you the best in your new phase.”

Vazquez was also linked with a move away from the Spanish capital but is set to stay for the forthcoming campaign under Carlo Ancelotti.

Meanwhile, with only one year remaining on Varane’s contract, Madrid have decided not to stand in his way and risk losing him on a free next summer.

Los Blancos have also lost Sergio Ramos this window, with the former captain departing after 16 years.

The signing of Varane will be a massive boost for Ole Solskjaer’s side, who with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw also in the backline, will hope to build on last season’s second place finish.

Once officially confirmed, Varane will be United’s second signing of the summer, after securing Jadon Sancho for £72.6million from Borussia Dortmund.
