Van de Beek tells club he ‘wants Barcelona move’ after miserable first season
Donny van de Beek experienced a torrid campaign at Manchester United last year, and the Dutchman only managed four starts in the Premier League as the Red Devils finished second.
Van de Beek was an unused substitute in United's Europa League heartbreak, and his lack of game time left his Euro 2020 spot in crisis, however, an injury would rule him out of the tournament.
There have been persistent calls from his homeland to leave United – after only a season – to prevent his career from stagnating.
And Barcelona has emerged as a potential destination for the wantaway midfielder.
Spanish outlet Sport are reporting that Van de Beek could be "seduced" for a move to the Nou Camp, even if the proposed deal is only on loan.
However, the report also states that Van de Beek is seeking a change of scenery, and he is unhappy with life in Manchester – and the lack of opportunities Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided him.
Barcelona are in the market for a midfielder, after they sensationally lost out on Georginio Wijnaldum at the 11th hour to PSG despite looking set to join the Catalan giants.
A move to Barcelona would also reunite Van de Beek with Frenkie de Jong, who partnered the United man in midfield during Ajax's storied Champions League run.
