Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun admits his agent is dealing with his future… as the USA star is pursued by Italian giants Inter Milan over a summer move
- Inter Milan have become a contender to sign Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun
- The Serie A side are expected to struggle to meet the Gunners’ £50m price tag
- Balogun insists his focus remains on pre-season despite transfer speculation
Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun has claimed his agent and family are dealing with his future after he reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Champions League runners-up Inter Milan.
The Italian side have switched their attention to Balogun after being unable to secure the permanent signing of Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea.
Balogun enjoyed a successful loan spell away from Arsenal at Ligue 1 side Reims last season.
The USA international scored 22 goals for Reims, which has led to AC Milan, Marseille, Monaco and RB Leipzig expressing an interest in the forward.
Arsenal are expected to demand £50million for Balogun, an asking price Inter are unlikely to be able to meet.
Folarin Balogun was asked about his future during Arsenal’s tour of the United States
The Arsenal forward has reportedly become a transfer target for Italian outfit Inter Milan
Balogun is part of Mikel Arteta’s squad for Arsenal’s pre-season tour of the United States.
The 22-year-old claimed to CBS that his future is being handled by his agent and family, with his focus firmly on preparations for the upcoming season.
‘I obviously went away and the aim of me going away was to prove I can play first-team football,’ Balogun told CBS.
‘Obviously, me coming back, I had a good season, I felt I was able to do that and play at that level so coming back, it’s not really much of a situation where I think I need to try extra hard to prove something.
‘It’s a decision that’s not with me, it’s with the people higher up.
‘I’m sure they’ll make that decision and whatever happens, I’m cool with it.
Balogun added ‘I’m obviously just focused on pre-season with the team.
‘I’m really just focused here and of course, my agent and my family are dealing with this.’
The US international has attracted interest from across Europe after starring at Reims
Balogun, who represented both England and United States at youth level, has elected to represent the latter nation on the senior stage.
The forward is expected to feature in front of a US crowd when Arsenal play the MLS All-Stars on Thursday.
A graduate of Arsenal’s academy, he has made ten senior appearances for the Gunners and has scored two goals.
He previously had a loan spell at Middlesbrough, scoring three times in 21 games.
Balogun is eager to start regularly and that is unlikely to be the case if he remains at Arsenal, with both Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah at the club.
