Ultimate s***house Pepe somehow escapes red for horrendous tackle on opponent

Porto hardman Pepe miraculously escaped a red card after a shocking tackle on an opposition player.

Reigning Portuguese champions Porto took on Gil Vincente on Sunday, where they trailed 2-1 at home. With time running out and already down to nine-men, Pepe decided to add to his side’s woes by giving the referee a major call to make.

The 40-year-old veteran, as he has done so many times throughout his career, suddenly lost his cool and landed a horror tackle on his opponent.

Pepe caught Marlon Douglas de Sales Silva on the shin with a late lunge. His boot – studs facing up – caused the player’s leg to buckle in sickening fashion.

The former Real Madrid legend was somehow able to escape an eighth red card of his career. He may have had his two team-mates, Joao Mario and Mateus Uribe, to thank as referee Rui Costa decided against issuing a third red card of the game.

And fans on social media were left stunned at how the three-time Champions League winner escaped punishment.

"Porto are so lucky they aren't down to 8 now. Pepe with a potential leg-breaking challenge. Didn't even argue the yellow, showed concern for his victim immediately,” one fan said.

Another tweeted: "Even Pepe himself knew it was a red as soon as he did it."

Pepe re-joined Porto after a hugely successful career at Real Madrid in 2018. The Portuguese defender was known for his leadership at Los Blancos, along with the occasional violent outburst, including one shocking incident which saw him receive a 10-game ban.

And he was last season alleged to have even kicked out at a rival team’s director during an on-pitch brawl.
