Ukraine agent slams Shakhtar Donetsk for blocking Mikhailo Mudryk transfer

A Ukraine-based agent has slammed Shakhtar Donetsk for pricing Mikhailo Mudryk out of a transfer to Chelsea or Arsenal.

Arsenal news, exclusives and analysis

The Gunners are leading the race to sign the 22-year-old winger but have already seen two bids rejected having refused to meet an eye-watering £88million asking price.

Chelsea have belatedly entered the race and have held talks with Shakhtar chiefs this week after technical director Darijo Srna attended Thursday’s defeat against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

Mudryk has openly admitted the idea of a move to Arsenal appeals to him but is now said to be torn over which London club to join should the opportunity arise.

A January transfer looks unlikely, however, unless Shakhtar relent and lower their demands, according to Igor Kryvenko.

‘Minimal. Shakhtar won’t let Mudryk go for the money they are currently offering. €100m is an inadequate price,’ Kryvenko told Footboom.

‘A player from the Ukrainian championship cannot cost more than, for example, a player from the Netherlands. You have to look at things realistically.

‘There is a market value, and Shakhtar seem to be taking figures from the ceiling.

‘The guy is in the ‘golden cage’. I know for sure that in the summer, Brentford offered good money for Mudryk, but the Donetsk team refused.

‘It seems as if they want to reflect on their talent everything that they lost in the past failed transfers.’

Arsenal had hoped to conclude the signing of Mudryk early in the window but the deal now looks almost certain to go to the wire with the player’s agent confirming on Friday that his client had flown to Turkey to take part in Shakhtar’s training camp.

‘Mudryk is a Shakhtar player and the decision on his transfer will be made by the management of the Donetsk club,’ Alyokhin told Sport Arena.

‘Mykhailo is now preparing to go with Shakhtar to the training camp. Trust only official information.’
