Tuchel tells Chelsea fans to forget Super League anger pre-Real Madrid clash
Thomas Tuchel has told football fans to forget their anger over the European Super League – and get behind Chelsea.
Chelsea face one of their fellow “dirty dozen” Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final with passions still running high among football after the breakaway plot.
But Tuchel is urging neutral fans to support Chelsea even after the ESL fall-out with calls for England’s Big Six clubs to be hammered with heavy punishments.
Chelsea boss Tuchel said: “We all make mistakes and if you lead a club and own a club you can make decisions that not everybody understands and not everybody likes. This is part of life, but it does not change the love for the game.
“I can just tell everybody I love this game so, so much like everybody in the dressing room, the boys are so happy out there on the pitch with their smiles, so excited about tomorrow's game – a semi-final.
“We need all support to enable us to overcome this huge step in these two games. So put your anger to this decision and the way it was presented. That would be well-understood and absolutely fine by me.
“But don't put it on the team and never doubt the love that all the people at the training ground in Cobham have and is the same with most clubs at all levels have for this game, and you will see the passion.”
Tuchel also insisted that Chelsea deserve to be in the last four of the Champions League – and have earned the right to be there.
“We deserve to be in the semi-final, like Real Madrid deserve to be in the semi-final,” added Tuchel. “We don’t deserve it because of political decisions or because of influence or because of size or because of nice shirts or because of our logo.
“We deserve because we came a long way. I had the luck to be part of it since the knockout phase. All teams have come a long way and fought our way through the toughest competition in Europe, so of course we deserve to play in a semi-final.
“If problems exist on a sports political level then it has to be solved on this level and not during a competition which is not affected. Right now we deserve through the competition to be there.
“That’s why we are full of confidence and looking forward to playing these matches at the highest level. It’s what we all dream about.”
