Tuchel and Bayern chiefs ‘agree’ on stance to sign Chelsea’s Havertz

Thomas Tuchel and Bayern Munich chiefs agree there is no room for Chelsea star Kai Havertz at the Bundesliga club, according to reports. It is claimed a possible move for the forward had been discussed in Tuchel’s first few days at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern sacked Julian Nagelsmann last week and swiftly brought in his replacement. Tuchel is back managing in his home country for the first time since leaving Borussia Dortmund in 2017.

He has had spells in charge of Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea. Havertz was already at Stamford Bridge when Tuchel arrived in late January 2021.

The 23-year-old played a big part in Tuchel winning the Champions League that season, scoring the only goal in the final win over Manchester City. Havertz has started to hit some form for Chelsea, netting in his last three matches after a seven-game barren run.

Tuchel’s reported interest in the player is not a surprise. Sport Bild reporter Christian Falk claims Havertz’s possible signing was one of the first topics discussed between Tuchel and Bayern chiefs.

However, Falk claims both parties have agreed there is no place for Havertz in the current squad. Robert Lewandowski left Bayern last summer to join Barcelona on a free transfer.

But Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has played a prominent role this season, scoring 10 goals in the Bundesliga. Sadio Mane is now back to full fitness, while Thomas Muller and Serge Gnabry are two other forward options available to Tuchel.

The news will be a boost to Chelsea as Havertz starts to reach the potential he has shown on occasions since joining from Bayer Leverkusen two-and-a-half years ago. He is the club’s top scorer in all competitions this season, with nine goals to his name.

Chelsea are on a four-game unbeaten run, though did drop points last time out against relegation-threatened Everton at home. Speaking earlier this month, Havertz gave full backing to current boss Graham Potter.

Havertz said: “Of course, we know that the pressure is coming at him, but you can see that he is a big manager because in the media, I cannot even believe how many people have to talk [about] him.

“We have hundreds of coaches in England, they think they know better than him. But we know in the changing room that he is a big personality, a big manager for us and he helps us all a lot – me included.

“So we are 100 per cent behind him, even though the people maybe don’t see it, but I think now today everyone saw that he’s a big manager.”
