Manchester United target Kieran Trippier is reportedly willing to wait until the end of the transfer window for his move.
The 30-year-old has been linked with a return to England after entering the final year of his contract at Atletico Madrid, who prefer to gain a fee for him now rather than lose him on a free.
United have already brought in their two main targets this summer in Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho for a sum of £120million, and now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has turned his attention to Trippier.
But the Red Devils need to raise funds by offloading players before they are able to reach Atletico’s £30million valuation of the player.
The Manchester Evening News reports Trippier is aware of this fact and is willing to wait for United to part with several players before the end of the window.
Fellow right-backs Diogo Dalot and Brandon Williams are most likely to leave while Ivorian Eric Bailly’s future also remains unclear.
Solskjaer is keen to bring in Trippier, who is not only renowned for his set-piece and crossing ability but more recently his defending too.
England manager Gareth Southgate commented during Euro 2020 that Trippier is a ‘defensive animal’, and the ex-Spurs man was entrusted with forming England’s back-five against Germany.
Do you think Trippier will start ahead of Wan-Bissaka if he signs for United? Let us know in the comments section.
With murmurings that United are unimpressed by Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s development as a player on both ends, Trippier could seamlessly fit into the defence alongside international teammates Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire.
Trippier is rumoured to be a boyhood United fan and will certainly have been impressed by the club’s ambition this summer.
With Atletico’s debt standing at €1billion, they may be pressured into accepting a bid by the end of the window.
