Trippier held back by Joelinton after clash with Newcastle fan at Bournemouth

Kieran Trippier was involved in an angry spat with a Newcastle fan during their trip to Bournemouth – which saw the Magpies suffer defeat at the Vitality Stadium.

It was a Dominic Solanke double that downed Eddie Howe's side on the South Coast. And the Newcastle fans weren't best pleased after the full-time whistle, with one fan directing his anger towards full-back Trippier.

Trippier was furious with the fan, and he had to be held back by Joelinton during the exchange. Howe was then seen leading the Englishman away from the clash, consoling his player.

Trippier was criticised by fans on social media, and one fan fumed: "It’s absolutely fine to say Trippier hasn’t been good lately you know!" While a second added: "Trippier rubbish again, gifting the ball back to them, our attack not in the game."

"Trippier has been rubbish since the Palace game and Joelinton looked like he was under Bruce too many very poor performances," a third fumed. And another added: "Trippier has been awful all game…stays on…"

Trippier, himself, was fuming after the game: "It’s frustrating, we weren’t ourselves today. You had two teams fighting to get the three points but there are no excuses from us today, we were way off it and Bournemouth deserved the win.”

He added: “We wanted to play Champions League football and we want to play in every competition, so I say no excuses because this is the reality; we’re playing every three days and this is what we want.

“We’ve lost a lot of players but we just have to stand up and keep going. We’ve got to move on now and I think the international break has come at the right time for us.”
