Trent Alexander-Arnold sets unwanted Premier League record in 1-0 Liverpool loss
Trent Alexander-Arnold's evening was summed up with one brutal stat as Liverpool lost 1-0 against Southampton at St. Mary's.
The home side scored within four minutes, with Danny Ings finishing off a clever free-kick routine to give his team an early lead.
Liverpool pressed and pressed for an equaliser throughout but Southampton withstood their barrage in the second-half.
As for Alexander-Arnold, he was withdrawn before the 80th minute and replaced by James Milner.
Soon after his exit, Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler revealed the reason Jurgen Klopp probably decided to change things and bring the young right-back off the field.
The commentator explained Alexander-Arnold had given the ball away 38 times in the match – the most of any Premier League player this season.
Some fans also blamed the youngster for Southampton's goal.
As James Ward-Prowse floated the free-kick into the box, Alexander-Arnold missed the ball by trying to chest it.
This footage earned more than 200,000 views within 15 minutes of being shared on Twitter by Sky Sports.
And the Anfield faithful were in agreement that the young full-back made a big error on the south coast.
"What the f*** is Trent Alexander-Arnold up to today? For f***s sake," one supporter said.
Another commented: "NO matter how good that finish was, Trent Alexander-Arnold cannot defend."
While a third suggested a reason for the full-back's poor start, with: "Trent Alexander-Arnold has been shocking since Liverpool won the title – still drunk from last season."
And a fourth added: "Trent Alexander-Arnold has been dizzy this season."
A fifth held nothing back, with: "Trent can't defend to save his life."
As for Liverpool, they have now picked up two points from a possible nine in the last week or so.
Klopp's side drew with West Brom and Newcastle before tonight's surprise defeat.
