Transfer rumour rater: Arsenal outcast Ozil’s next move, Grealish to Man Utd
The January transfer window is finally open, and the rumour mill has been cranked into overdrive.
Arsenal are expected to make signings this month, but outgoings are also in the offing, with a big question over the future of outcast Mesut Ozil.
Chelsea could spend big again and continue to be linked with West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, while Liverpool need a centre-half but are also said to be admirers of Kylian Mbappe.
Manchester United are another team who could benefit from defensive reinforcements – while Ole Trafford continues to be viewed as a potential destination for attacking stars like Jack Grealish, Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland.
Here, Daily Star Sport rates and slates the biggest transfer rumours.
Rumours we rate
Ozil closes in on Fenerbahce transfer
Mesut Ozil has been tipped to join Fenerbahce this month – but they are far from the only club linked with the Arsenal outcast.
There have also been reports that Ozil has been offered to Juventus, and it has been claimed the midfielder is in talks over a potential move to Major League Soccer side DC United.
But Ozil has family links in Turkey, and recently posted a picture of himself in Istanbul – although it was not clear when the photograph was taken.
Daily Star says: 7/10 – It is clear Ozil has no future at Arsenal with Emile Smith Rowe having stepped up, and Fenerbahce appears to be a likely destination.
Man Utd told to sign Grealish
Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hits back at Jurgen Klopp over penalty jibe
Jack Grealish has long been linked with Manchester United – and Rio Ferdinand has told his former club to sign the Aston Villa star.
Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE, he said: "I don’t care if Pogba goes or not, Grealish is my man.
"If I am a manager of a top team in England, a top three or four team, then I would not allow him to stay there, I would go and take him."
Daily Star says: 6/10 – While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to be a prioritising a right-sided attacker, if Pogba were to leave, Grealish would be an exciting replacement.
Rumours we don't rate
Rice to join Chelsea in January
Frank Lampard's Chelsea pay off amount if Roman Abramovich decides to axe boss
Declan Rice is reported to be Frank Lampard's top transfer target in the January transfer window.
But Chelsea will have to pay big to land the midfielder, with West Ham having set a £73million price tag last summer.
TalkSPORT has claimed Chelsea must offload Danny Drinkwater, Fikayo Tomori, Marcos Alonso and Willy Caballero in order to fund a move for Rice.
Daily Star says: 5/10 – Rice appears destined to end up at Chelsea – but it seems unlikely West Ham will sell in the January window
Liverpool to rival Real Madrid for Mbappe
Liverpool's 'interesting' plans for the summer preventing January transfer action
Liverpool continue to be touted as potential rivals to Real Madrid for Kylian Mbappe's signature.
But Reds legend John Barnes says his former side don't need the £200million-rated PSG star.
Speaking to BonusCodeBets.co.uk , Barnes said: “Mbappe is a fantastic player but forward areas are not a position that Liverpool need strengthening in – but if he can play centre-back they should get him in January!"
Daily Star says: 4/10 – Spending that kind of money is not Liverpool's style – as the inspired summer signing of Diogo Jota showed.
