There are all manner of things going on in the transfer market with Cristiano Ronaldo wanting out of Manchester United among the biggest stories. The Portugal captain has asked for any offers for him to be considered despite the excitement at Old Trafford around the start of Erik ten Hag’s reign.
United are in the process of wrapping up their first signing in the form of Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia and continue in their long-standing attempts to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona. While Tottenham have made a whole host of signings and Arsenal are poised to unveil Gabriel Jesus as their latest capture, though they still want more new faces.
Chelsea are another team looking to ramp up their summer business as pre-season gets underway with Thomas Tuchel potentially spending up to £200million before the end of August. And Manchester City will soon add Kalvin Phillips to their list of signings in the current window.
Elsewhere Liverpool appear done having confirmed Fabio Carvalho’s arrival on Sunday but they continue to be linked with midfielders. And there’s plenty more going on throughout the Premier League with Leeds, West Ham, Everton and Newcastle among the many clubs looking to bolster their squads.
Express Sport provides a round-up of all the latest rumours and gossip right here.
Three done deals
It appears Arsenal, Man City and Man United may all have done deals to confirm today.
Gabriel Jesus, Kalvin Phillips and Tyrell Malacia’s arrivals at each respective club are merely pending confirmation.
De Jong refusing Barca pay cut
Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong is not prepared to take a salary cut in order to stay at Barcelona this summer, according to reports.
The midfielder is not willing to accept a salary reduction at the Nou Camp, according to Fabrizio Romano.
It is claimed that De Jong’s priority is to remain with his current employers, but he will not entertain the idea of being forced to take a pay cut.
Barcelona and United have an agreement over a fee for De Jong but the player appears reluctant to make the move and wants to play in the Champions League.
Yet Barca’s financial situation means a deal remains plausible, particularly if De Jong will not reduce his pay packet.
New Arsenal bid
Arsenal will reportedly submit an improved offer for Lisandro Martinez to beat Manchester United to his signature. Both clubs have tabled £38million for the defender.
The Daily Mail claims the Gunners are still determined to agree a deal with Ajax despite the lure of a reunion with Erik ten Hag at United.
The north London club are set to increase their £38m offer in an attempt to strike an agreement for Martinez.
Ajax apparently value the 24-year-old at £43m. Both Arsenal and United have offered the same amount, but the Red Devils have guaranteed more up front.
Martinez is keen for at least one of the bids to be accepted.
Man Utd look to appease Ronaldo
With Cristiano Ronaldo said to be unhappy that Manchester United have done so little in the transfer market so far, Spanish outlet Sport say they are ‘working on’ deals for Arnaut Danjuma and Antony as they seek to get Ronaldo back on side.
It’s said the Red Devils want five signings – with Frenkie de Jong, Lisandro Martinez and Malacia the other three – to add to the squad.
Ten Hag will hope adding as many of his targets as possible, with Christian Eriksen said to be a Plan B option should a swoop for De Jong fail, to convince Ronaldo not to quit Old Trafford.
Ronaldo leaving would need United in need of a new striker, with very few high-class options out there to succeed the veteran. Darwin Nunez was a target but joined rivals Liverpool instead.
