Premier League teams and their rivals across Europe will now have their thoughts firmly fixed on the return of club football following a break for the World Cup. The tournament in Qatar is set to come to an end on Sunday, with domestic football starting up again in the aftermath. And at the start of January clubs will be given the opportunity to bolster their squads when the transfer window opens.

There could be a whole host of transfer battles in the New Year as clubs look to put themselves in the driving seat to secure trophies at the business end of the season, while other teams will be doing all they can to ensure their squads are ready for a relegation dogfight.

The World Cup has put a myriad of players in the shop window, with stars from all across the world displaying their talents on the biggest stage of all.

Arsenal lead the Premier League table by five points ahead of the restart and could be on the lookout for more talent after losing Gabriel Jesus to injury. The big-spending Newcastle may also be keen to splash the cash as they attempt to keep their place in the top four. And the likes of Tottenham, Manchester United and Liverpool will want to gain any advantage they can get to secure Champions League qualification.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo will have his sights on finding a new club after leaving the Red Devils last month following an explosive interview with Piers Morgan. But he could find suitors in Europe hard to come by as his powers continue to wane.

We’ll have updates throughout the day. So follow Express Sport below to keep up-to-date with the latest transfer news.

Manchester United have been told by Old Trafford icon Louis Saha that Jude Bellingham would be the “perfect” signing and would complete their midfield reshuffle. The star is expected to leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season, with numerous top clubs interested.

Saha told Paddy Power: “For quite a few years now, Manchester United have been a team who have lacked energy and fitness in games, and have been outrun in matches, which is not normal if you’re trying to return to the top. So that is something that Jude Bellingham would be able to bring in if he came to United.”
