Tottenham's Rodrigo Bentancur 'out for the rest of the SEASON'
Tottenham’s injury crisis worsens with midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur ‘out for the rest of the SEASON after suffering ACL injury’ at Leicester – with Antonio Conte set to be without the Uruguyan ‘until August at the earliest’
- Rodrigo Bentancur went off injured during Tottenham 4-1 loss at Leicester City
- The Uruguyan reportedly injured his ACL and could be missing until August
- Spurs boss Antonio Conte is already without Yves Bissouma and Hugo Lloris
Tottenham are set to be without Rodrigo Bentancur for the rest of the season after he suffered a reported anterior cruciate ligament injury away to Leicester.
Bentancur, who scored the opening goal in Tottenham’s 4-1 defeat, was able to walk off the pitch but he had his face buried in his hands knowing the damage had been severe.
The Evening Standard have reported that Bentancur is now set to be out for around six months and may not return until August at the earliest – bringing his 2022-23 season to a premature end.
Things are going from bad to worse for Tottenham boss Antonio Conte on the injury front, with Bentancur adding to their fitness woes.
Fellow midfielder Yves Bissouma underwent surgery on Friday on a stress fracture to his left ankle. Conte is also having to deal without captain and No 1 goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who is out for eight weeks.
Rodrigo Bentancur will reportedly not feature for Tottenham until August ‘at the earliest’
The Uruguayan midfielder had his head in his hands after going down injured at Leicester
Bentancur made a bright start to the game at the King Power Stadium but was soon in real distress following a clash with Leicester’s Nampalys Mendy.
He received oxygen on the pitch and a stretcher was brought on before he was able to limp off.
Bentancur had his head in his hands and writhed in pain and he will now reportedly play no role in the remainder of their Premier League and Champions League campaigns this campaign.
Spurs’ assistant manager Cristian Stellini had been optimistic about Bentancur’s injury in the immediate aftermath of the 4-1 loss, but it appears that optimism has been misplaced.
A stretcher came on and he required oxygen and he has reportedly suffered an ACL injury
Spurs boss Antonio Conte is facing mounting injury problems as his side stutter in the league
He said: ‘We know that he feels pain, he can walk, so we have to wait a bit of time to check and understand what happened.
‘We hope he feels better in a few days, and we can have him back soon.’
Attention for Tottenham now turns to the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash with AC Milan.
Losing Bentancur, who has been a revelation under Conte since arriving from Juventus in January 2022 means 20-year-old Pape Matar Sarr may be thrust into the starting XI.
Senegal ace Sarr has not yet featured in the Champions League and only has one Premier League start to his name so far.
