Tottenham are considering entering the race for Sassuolo star Manuel Locatelli, who was the subject of a £43m transfer bid from Arsenal. The Italian has impressed for his country at Euro 2020 this summer.

Tottenham are weighing up hijacking Arsenal’s transfer move for Locatelli this summer.

The new Spurs director of football Fabio Paratici is a huge fan of the midfielder and knows him well from his time at Juventus.

Arsenal are desperate to sign the Sassuolo star with Mikel Arteta looking to strengthen his squad in the transfer window.

The Gunners are facing several exits from their team this year with Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi and Ainsley Maitland-Niles all set to depart.

It means Arteta will be light in midfield while Locatelli has been a star for Italy at the Euros this year.

In the group stage, he scored twice against Switzerland in a 3-0 win while the Azzurri face Belgium next in the competition.

And the Gunners are ahead in the race after Sassuolo sporting director Giovanni Carnevali admitted that talks with Juventus are not as advanced.

“Juventus are the only Italian club we talked to about Locatelli,” Carnevali told Sky in Italy. “We met last week with (Juventus sporting director Federico) Cherubini.

“There is interest from their side, we haven’t explored all the terms and evaluations, but we have an excellent relationship with Juventus so we will continue these talks.

“It’s true that other clubs from abroad are interested, Arsenal are one of these and they are ahead of everyone else because they tabled the only concrete offer we have received so far.”

However, Tottenham are set to enter the race for Locatelli – a player that Paratici knows well – according to the Daily Star.

Sassuolo are readying the 23-year-old’s departure and intend to make £43m from the transfer.

New Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo is expecting signings this summer after agreeing to take over as boss.
