Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has given super-agent Jorge Mendes the task of finding a new centre-back for the club, according to reports. And it’s claimed Davinson Sanchez will be sold when the transfer window reopens at the end of the campaign. The defender has struggled for consistency this season and, now, a parting of the ways could be on the cards.

Tottenham have endured a problematic campaign under Mourinho.

Their defence has struggled over the course of the season, conceding 30 goals from 28 Premier League matches so far.

Sanchez has been particularly disappointing and, now, Football Insider say the 24-year-old will be cut loose this summer.

Mourinho has grown tired of the player’s issues at the back, believing he can’t rely on the former Ajax star in the big matches.

The Tottenham boss thinks Sanchez’s recovery pace and courage ‘does not compensate for the other sides of his game.’

And Mourinho also believes Spurs overpaid for the defender upon bringing him to the capital back in the transfer window of 2017.

On that occasion, Daniel Levy parted ways with £42million to acquire his signature.

And the report claims Mourinho has tasked his own agent, Mendes, to find a new centre-back to replace Sanchez this summer.

Tottenham are keen to use that special relationship to help their cause, with Mendes one of the best agents within the game.

And who Tottenham end up signing is something only time will tell.

Sanchez conceded a penalty against Arsenal on Sunday, with Alexandre Lacazette scoring the winner in the north London derby from the penalty spot.

Yet Mourinho, instead of criticising his own player, chose to vent his fury at referee Michael Oliver and his officials instead.

He told Sky Sports: “No post-match interviews for referees? That’s a pity. We played really badly in the first half.

“The 1-1 was not a fair reflection of the first half. We were poor, defending badly, no intensity, not pressing. In terms of creating attacking football, some important players were hiding.

“The first half was really bad. In the second half, we only had space to improve, which we did.

“And then it’s a question for… an impossible question because they don’t speak, but it would be a question for Michael to answer. Michael Oliver and the officials instead.

“Probably Paul Tierney, too, because he was the VAR. According to [the fourth official] Kevin Friend, the referee was told he had a clear vision and the VAR didn’t want to go against him.

“But let’s go back to the beginning, we were poor in the first half. We recovered what we lost in the first half, which was the control of the game.”

He then added: “What I saw from the bench, I had a feeling, but of course, I am 40, 50 metres away.

“So I think referees have quite a difficult job sometimes. I didn’t complain because he’s closer than me, but when I watched on the iPad, it is what it is.

“If somebody has a different opinion, it’s one of the big Arsenal fans with the season tickets, it’s the only one that I would accept a different view from because that’s the passion speaking.

“Apart from that, I wouldn’t accept that anyone has a different view because it’s too obvious.”

Tottenham have two matches before the international break.

They lock horns with Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League on Thursday night, leading 2-0 from the first leg.

And, after that, they’ll face off against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday (7.30pm).
