Tottenham stars ‘starting to turn’ on Mourinho as problems come to the surface
Tottenham's defeat by West Ham on Sunday extended the struggling club's poor run and left Jose Mourinho pointing to "problems in the team that I cannot resolve by myself".
Mourinho's time at Spurs has included his longest ever winless run, seven games, while their current slump began with three straight defeats, matching the longest losing run of his career.
But, in the aftermath of that 2-1 Hammers' loss over the weekend, the former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United manager was quick to hit back at his critics.
Mourinho is often accused of being out-dated, but was bullish when asked whether he questioned his methods amid the poor run of form.
"No, not at all. Not at all. Zero," he said.
Asked what gave him so much confidence in his ways, he added: "Because sometimes the results are the consequence of multiple situations in football and mine and my coaching staff's methods are second to nobody in the world."
However, according to The Athletic, Tottenham's dressing room is beginning to become unhappy with Mourinho's methods.
Indeed, the publication claims that there are three main concerns with his training sessions; that they are too defensive, too focused on the opposition and not as intense as they were under his predecessor Mauricio Pochettino.
The report also suggests that Tottenham stars are becoming "bored and frustrated" with the under-fire manager's approach to pre-match preparations.
One situation, in which Mourinho focused on how to defend throw-ins ahead of a crunch clash with Liverpool this season, left the players particularly perplexed.
And now the pressure is on the Portuguese boss to turn things around, with Spurs supremo Daniel Levy understood to be keeping a close eye on developments.
Tottenham's demise has been stark as from a position at the top of the table in mid-December they have won just three of last 13 games, meaning their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League through the league are all-but over.
The north Londoners currently sit ninth, trailing fourth-placed West Ham by nine points, and Mourinho needs his players on board if they're to have a big finish to what has been a tough season so far.
