Son Heung-min wants to return to Tottenham immediately after South Korea were knocked out of the World Cup. Son captained his national team to an impressive last-16 finish, losing heavily to tournament favourites Brazil after a remarkable group-stage effort.
South Korea qualified for the knockout rounds at Uruguay’s expense thanks to a 2-1 victory over Portugal. But Brazil proved too strong for Son and his team-mates, with Spurs star Richarlison scoring in a 4-1 win.
Son’s impact was limited due to a facial injury he suffered while playing for the north Londoners a week prior to the World Cup. He played in a face mask for the entire tournament and expects to wear the accessory in the Premier League.
However, he has insisted he does not want a break and will return to Spurs soon. “The Premier League is on a break, so I think I should return as soon as possible and will need to play with my mask on,” Son told Korean newspaper JoongAng Daily.

“I was born to play football and I am a professional footballer so it’s only right to continue to play even with my mask on. Although I wish I could recover quickly and play without the mask. I will have to discuss those matters with my doctor.”
South Korea exceeded expectations in Qatar and Son believes his colleagues have made the country proud. The 30-year-old added: “Before coming to the World Cup, I said that I wanted to make this World Cup unforgettable. The team and Korean fans have made this World Cup unforgettable.”
Head coach Paulo Bento announced his departure following South Korea’s exit from the World Cup. “We just have to think about the future and it will not be with the national team of South Korea,” he said in an emotional press conference.

“I have just announced to the players and to the president of the South Korean federation and this was a decision I had already taken since September that was set in stone.
“Today I have confirmed it and I have to thank them for everything they have done. They have given their very best and I have been very pleased and proud to have been their manager.”
Son will now return to Spurs hoping to improve on the form he showed in the first few months of the Premier League season. The attacker scored just three top-flight goals – all of which were part of a hat-trick against Leicester.
