Tottenham believe Harry Kane will still be playing for the club this season, despite his unexpected absence from training, according to reports. The 28-year-old was due back at Hotspur Way on Monday but failed to show up, prompting further speculation over his future.

Tottenham were ready for Kane’s return after a three-week break following his long Euro 2020 campaign earlier in the summer.

He was set to undergo COVID-19 testing and routine blood work to start his pre-season preparations under new head coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

However, Kane didn’t arrive at the club’s training ground in a supposed attempt to force a move away.

His decision to try and push for an exit has lifted Manchester City’s hopes of securing his services this summer.

Despite Pep Guardiola’s interest, though, a reputable report has claimed Tottenham are confident he will remain with the club.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Fabrizio Romano has suggested that City won’t give up on Kane, but Tottenham aren’t expecting the Premier League champions to match their valuation.

“The situation is really, really tense,” Romano explained.

“But from what I’m told, Tottenham’s view is the same; Harry Kane will be playing for Tottenham this season.

“I know Manchester City are really prepared to try again after bidding £100million.”

Despite City’s willingness to make another approach, Romano describes the potential deal as ‘complicated’ due to Spurs’ stubborn stance.

He added: “I think this will be complicated because Tottenham won’t change their position.

“But Manchester City are ready to deal if Tottenham change their position and let Harry Kane leave.

“This week will be key to understanding what will happen.”

Kane’s decision will be a clear indicator for City, should they wish to push the accelerator on their pursuit.

Now is a better time than ever to make a formal bid for last season’s Premier League Golden Boot winner.

This week is also set to be decisive in their interest in Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish.

This month could see the English transfer record broken not once but twice by City if they complete a dream double swoop for Grealish and Kane.
