Tottenham reach agreement with Nuno Espirito Santo to succeed Jose Mourinho
Tottenham hope to appoint Nuno Espirito Santo as their next manager this week after coming to an agreement with the former Wolves boss.
The Portuguese coach left Wolves at the end of last season after four years at the club and he had been close to joining Crystal Palace before a last minute u-turn.
Nuno then spoke to Everton about a move to Goodison Park to replace Carlo Ancelotti but the Toffees have switched their attention to Rafael Benitez.
Spurs have had similarly bad luck with their managerial search, failing with moves for Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte and Julian Nagelsmann, while secondary candidates such as Graham Potter, Brendan Rodgers and Erik Ten Hag.
Moves for Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso then fell through at the final hurdle and the Telegraph claim Spurs have now struck a quick agreement with Nuno to take charge.
Nuno’s first task will be convincing Harry Kane to stay at the club as the England skipper has intimated his desire to leave in order to win silverware.
Manchester City have reportedly had a bid turned down for Kane, while Chelsea and Manchester United have a strong interest.
Nuno guided Wolves to back-to-back seventh spot finishes in the Premier League after earning them promotion from the Championship.
Last season was less successful but the Portuguese coach left Molineux with a fine reputation.
