Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has described Djed Spence as “not ready” and damningly suggested he doesn’t “want to lose” after being asked why Matt Doherty has struggled for game time. The Italian has therefore got plenty of thinking to do as he selects a replacement for the suspended Emerson Royal ahead of Spurs’ Premier League clash with Brighton on Saturday. Express Sport picks a possible Spurs line-up.
Goalkeeper: Hugo Lloris
Hugo Lloris will hope to go a step closer to 150 Premier League clean sheets this weekend. The Frenchman – who has been stuck on 146 since August – overcame a disastrous north London derby display with an impressive performance in the goalless Champions League draw with Frankfurt in midweek.
Now 35, Lloris remains Spurs’ first-choice goalkeeper by some distance. No 2 Fraser Forster is yet to make an appearance for the club.

Defenders: Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Ben Davies
Welshman Ben Davies could come into the Spurs back three in place of Clement Lenglet. The on-loan Barcelona man struggled during the north London derby and was lucky not to be sent off against Frankfurt. Davies is now fit following a knee injury.
Midfielders: Ivan Perisic, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ryan Sessegnon
Emerson Royal’s red card for a rough challenge on Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli leaves the Brazilian facing a three-match ban. Having criticised both Spence and Doherty, Conte is short of alternative options at right wing-back.
The 53-year-old could switch Ivan Perisic from left to right, as he has done previously with the summer arrival. That would allow the impressive Ryan Sessegnon to earn some minutes on the other side.
It seems unlikely that Yves Bissouma will play against the club from whom Spurs signed the Malian for £35m. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur have performed well as a midfield pairing and will surely continue against Brighton.

Attackers: Richarlison, Harry Kane, Son Heung-min
Getting his front three clicking is Conte’s main challenge. The Spurs manager has been criticised for his defensive style of football, with his side perceived to be too deep to allow their attacking players to thrive.
Richarlison has scored just twice for his new club – with both coming against Marseille in the Champions League. Son Heung-min’s struggles in this campaign are well documented.
This front three, spearheaded by Harry Kane, drew a blank in Frankfurt and will need to be better in front of goal this weekend.
