Jose Mourinho is under increasing pressure after his Tottenham side crashed out of the Europa League to Dinamo Zagreb. The Premier League outfit suffered a humiliating 3-2 defeat after taking a two-goal lead to Croatia. Here, Express Sport looks at some of the potential candidates to replace Mourinho if Spurs chairman Daniel Levy sacks the beleaguered boss.

Brendan Rodgers

The Leicester manager has impressed again this season with the Foxes side third in the Premier League table and on course to qualify for the Champions League.

Ex-Liverpool boss Rodgers has established himself as one of the best managers in the top flight and would likely be high on any shortlist.

His previous spells at Anfield and as Celtic manager also stand him in good stead and he has a proven track record in England.

The challenge of turning Tottenham back into top-four contenders could be a pull for the 48-year-old.

Julian Nagelsmann

The 33-year-old is one of the highest-rated managers in Europe and would be an exciting appointment for Tottenham.

The RB Leipzig boss has been linked with several Premier League jobs in recent months – including the Chelsea job before Thomas Tuchel as installed in the Stamford Bridge hotseat.

Nagelsmann would also be a popular appointment with fans, and his brand of football could appeal to Levy if the Spurs chairman chose to part company with Mourinho.

But he has also been linked with Bayern Munich, and Tottenham would no doubt face competition if they wanted to land the German coach.

Eddie Howe

The former Bournemouth boss is enjoying a sabbatical from football at the moment after leaving the Cherries.

His stock is not as high as it once was following their relegation from the Premier League.

Howe was once seen as a future England manager, however, and has credentials that shouldn’t be ignored.

It would be a risk for Spurs to replace Mourinho with him, and they may look for someone with more experience at the highest level.

Rafa Benitez

Benitez is most fondly remembered by Liverpool fans after leading the Reds to the Champions League, FA Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

He has plenty of top-level experience, having also guided Chelsea to Europa League glory and won major honours with Inter Milan, Valencia and Napoli.

More recently, of course, he led Newcastle United back into the Premier League, but left the club when his contract expired two years later following disagreements with Magpies owner Mike Ashley.

Benitez is available after leaving Chinese side Dalian Professional in January, and would surely relish the chance to test his managerial nous in the Premier League once again.

Max Allegri

Max Allegri is continually linked with Premier League managerial jobs having led Juventus to five of their nine consecutive Serie A titles.

The Italian led Juve to league and cup doubles four seasons in a row, before announcing he was to step down after winning a fifth successive Scudetto.

Since then there has been speculation that he would take jobs at Manchester United and Chelsea, among other clubs.

Landing the 53-year-old would be a coup for Levy.
