Tottenham edged bitter rivals Arsenal in the Premier League last season, and they've savagely mocked them now that European football has come back around.

The two north London sides battled it out for fourth spot all season, but Tottenham just edged the Gunners during the final weeks of the season, and qualified for the Champions League at their expense. Arsenal also qualified for Europe, but had to settle for the second tier, as they prepare for Europa League nights on Thursday.

Arsenal have been mocked online for an advert released ahead of their Europa League start, with goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale delivering the line "we're back baby" to hype up their return to European football. But Tottenham have used that to their advantage, and simply tweeted the same line while attaching a picture of the Champions League logo to rub salt in Arsenal's wounds.

Every team wants to play in the Champions League, and although the Europa League is still honourable, it's not valued the same by fans. Therefore, those in Europe's top competition have bragging rights over those who aren't, and it just so happens that Tottenham's biggest rivals are settling for less this time around.

Arsenal failed to even qualify for European football ahead of last season, meaning that finishing fifth was still an improvement. But they've been brilliantly mocked by Tottenham, who made a winning start to their Champions League campaign.

After a slow start, a ten-man Marseille side were finally broken down by Tottenham, with summer signing Richarlison grabbing both goals on his Champions League debut. The Brazilian was in tears at the final whistle, and he's quickly becoming a fan favourite.

To make it even sweeter for Tottenham, their French opponents have built up quite the relationship with Arsenal in recent years, as they currently have former Arsenal stars Matteo Guendouzi and Alexis Sanchez at the club. They also have current Arsenal star Nuno Tavares on loan, after acquiring William Saliba temporarily in the past.

Whereas Tottenham faced a side with huge European pedigree such as Marseille, Arsenal will travel to Zurich on Thursday to kick off their campaign. The Gunners also drew PSV and Bodo/Glimt in their group, but will be eyeing the Champions League next season.

Arsenal are currently top of the Premier League after a brilliant start, and they're well aware that winning the Europa League grants them qualification to the Champions League. Tottenham are also unbeaten and have made a great start, so it's likely the two will be battling come the end of the season too.
