Tottenham have decided to look at potential replacements for Nuno Espirito Santo before relieving him of his duties, it has been claimed. The Portuguese only took charge four months ago after leaving Wolves at the end of last season. However, Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United has left him on the brink of the sack.
Tottenham initially didn’t want Nuno to replace Jose Mourinho, who was sacked back in April just days before the Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City.
Instead, they hunted a variety of names – from Antonio Conte to Julian Nagelsmann, Brendan Rodgers to Graham Potter.
In the end, though, Tottenham did hire Nuno. He was available after leaving Wolves and agreed to take charge on a two-year contract.
Initially, his era started well.
Spurs beat Manchester City in their Premier League opener and, after three games, had nine points on the board.
But Tottenham are now stuck in a rut and Saturday’s defeat to United has led to suggestions he could be about to lose his job.

And Fabrizio Romano, taking to Twitter, has claimed Tottenham are ‘now’ looking at candidates to take over from Nuno before they officially bring the axe crashing down.
Furthermore, it’s also stated that Antonio Conte is the top of Fabio Paratici’s wishlist.
“Tottenham board now considering candidates list before sacking Nuno,” he said.
“Decision still to be communicated but job understood to be ‘more than in danger’.
“Nuno’s waiting – Antonio Conte has always been top of Paratici’s list since last summer [there was no agreement].”
Conte would be a top appointment for Tottenham if they can bring him in the door.

But they may struggle to appoint the combative Italian due to his high wage demands, something that scuppered their hopes of appointing him back in the summer.
Nuno now appears to be a dead man walking.
And with the 47-year-old struggling by the game, a parting of the ways is looking increasingly likely.
Speaking back in the summer, meanwhile, Conte insisted his next job wouldn’t be about money.
“The market sets the price, but had I been obsessed by money, I would have stayed where I was in the past. I would have accepted compromises and obtained new contracts,” Conte told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I look for the projects instead and I am ready to stay at home if something is not convincing me. It has to do with vision, honesty and principles.
“Generally, I like challenges and I’ve accepted many of them during my career.
“Even the top clubs I coached were never the favourites when I arrived.

“However, if there’s something that doesn’t convince me I prefer not to accept, regardless of the money.”
Yet Conte also stated that he wanted a year off before returning to management.
“It will be a year in which I will try to study and continue to investigate certain situations,” he said.
“I want to make the most of this unwanted situation, but that’s OK.
“I’ll take advantage of the period to be with my family and to watch football, which always evolves and goes on.”
Conte previously managed in England with Chelsea, claiming the FA Cup and Premier League trophies during a successful two-year spell.
