Tottenham line up bargain January deal to solve Ange Postecoglou’s main problem
Ange Postecoglou says ‘we’ll get through it’ after Tottenham are beaten again
Tottenham could reportedly strike a £4.3million bargain by targeting Sebastian Caceres in the January transfer window. A defensive injury crisis has prompted Ange Postecoglou to strengthen his back line in the new year.
The absence of several key stars has seen Postecoglou’s side slip away from the top of the Premier League table. A blossoming centre-back partnership between Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven has been broke up until at least the new year due to the latter’s serious hamstring injury.
Defensive reinforcements are reportedly now the priority ahead of January. One of Spurs’ deals could reportedly see them target Uruguay international Caceres at a small cost.
The Club America centre-back has just one more year remaining on his contract. The Mexican outfit could therefore be persuaded to sell the 24-year-old in a cheap agreement.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Club America want at least £4.3m for the star, who has never played outside of South America. Postecoglou will reportedly face competition from Newcastle and Aston Villa for the player’s signature.
Spurs have brought in Villa’s former sporting director Johan Lange to work on transfers ahead of the January window. Postecoglou says his own presence in business will grow closer to the new year.
“I guess the challenge for us was they all came at once as it hasn’t been staggered. In terms of January, the planning is well away from that. Johan [Lange] has come in and he’s leading that in terms of all the background work,” Postecoglou said last week.

“My involvement and my own sort of ramp up to it as we get closer to January and understanding exactly what our requirements are at the moment, although work has been done in the background with Johan leading it and he’s brought in some people to help him in that area. We’ll work with him when the time is right.”
Villa inflicted a third consecutive defeat on Spurs on Sunday. The north Londoners were unfortunate to fall to a 2-1 defeat, sealed by an Ollie Watkins goal in a come-from-behind victory.
Postecoglou’s issues were summed up by four natural full-backs starting along the back four. Eric Dier, the only recognised centre-back in the squad, was left on the substitutes’ bench.
