Tottenham fans want UEFA to give them 3-0 loss to crash out of Conference League

Some Tottenham fans are glad their Europa Conference League clash with Rennes cannot be rescheduled and want UEFA to slap them with a 3-0 loss so that they exit the competition.

UEFA announced on Saturday morning that the postponed clash – which was due to be played on Thursday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – would not be rescheduled.

Spurs cancelled the original fixture following 13 positive Covid-19 cases at the club.

The result of the match will now be decided by the UEFA control, ethics and disciplinary body, which looks set to declare that the north Londoners will be forced to forfeit the tie.

In a statement, UEFA explained the decision to forego the match entirely and made reference to a clause in the organisation's rules known as "Annex J."

It said: "As a consequence, the match can no longer be played and the matter will, therefore, be referred to the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body for a decision to be taken in accordance with Annex J of the above-mentioned competition regulations."

Annex J of the regulations suggests that as Spurs as the home team were unable to fulfil the fixture, they will forfeit the game with Rennes awarded an automatic 3-0 win.

Should Tottenham be made to forfeit the match? Let us know in the comments section.

The clause states: "If it is not possible to reschedule the match within the final deadline set out in Annex J.4.1, the club that cannot play the match will be held responsible for the match not taking place and the match will be declared by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body to be forfeited by the club, which will be considered to have lost it by 3-0."

If that proves to be the case and Rennes are awarded a 3-0 win, Tottenham would finish third in the group and exit the competition – not that Spurs fans seem to mind.

One person wrote on Twitter: "Few Spurs fans care about this poxy competition , we don’t have the squad to compete and if we want to be in Europes top tier competition next season it would help enormously if we were no longer in it."
