Tottenham made a last-ditch attempt to hijack Dusan Vlahovic’s big-money switch to Juventus in the final days of the transfer window, according to reports.

Vlahovic was courted by both Spurs and their north London rivals, Arsenal for the majority of January after his stunning goalscoring record for Fiorentina.

The 22-year-old amassed a remarkable tally of 20 goals in just 24 games for the Italian side, who were desperate to hold on to their prolific hitman.

But with just 18 months left to run on Vlahovic’s deal, Fiorentina made the difficult decision to cash in on their prized asset in ahead of the summer; alerting a host of top European clubs.

And while it was Arsenal who spent the majority of the summer chasing Vlahovic and Juventus who eventually won the race for his signature, a new report has emerged revealing that Spurs made a last-gasp move for the ex-Partizan man.

According to Goal Italia, Tottenham director of football Fabio Paratici, made one final attempt to ‘steal’ Vlahovic from Juventus’ grasp.

But Paratici and Spurs failed in their ambitious bid to hijack the move and Vlahovic wrapped up a £66.6million switch to Juventus just a couple of days before the transfer window slammed shut.

Despite missing out on Vlahovic, Tottenham managed to regroup and get deals over the line for Juventus duo Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski.

Paratici’s double raid on his former club should go some way to appeasing Spurs boss Antonio Conte, who had made it clear in no uncertain terms that the club were desperate for new recruits.

The Italian had outlined his desire to acquire three new players in January, but was forced to settle for two after Vlahovic’s late snub.

Just days after sealing his dream move to Turin, Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso launched a blistering attack on Vlahovic and his representatives – accusing them of being “dishonest and liars”.

“It was clear to everyone he already had a deal with someone. He said no to every offer. I went to England many times, each time he said no,” Commisso said in an official club statement.

“Vlahovic wanted to remain until his contract ran down and ruin Fiorentina.

“His agents wanted a 10% cut of the transfer fee and exclusive rights to negotiate his next move. They wanted to make money off us, so selling him now was an excellent operation.

“His agents were dishonest and liars.

“We had a good meeting in November, I expected a positive response for the morning after to sign the contract, instead he asked for double.”
