Tottenham are reportedly ready to launch a bid for Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger – if the German cannot come to terms on a new contract at Stamford Bridge. The central defender has enjoyed a Blues reanaissance in recent weeks, becoming a key member of Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
That’s in stark contrast to his standing under former manager Frank Lampard, who deemed him surplus to requirements during his tenure.
Rudiger was widely expected to complete an exit, firstly in the summer and then in the most recent January transfer window.
However, under his compatriot Rudiger has played every minute in the Premier League, with the Blues in the midst of a 10-game unbeaten run.
Asked about differences between Tuchel and Lampard, the defender said:“It’s all details, details.

“If you don’t do what he tells you, you will find yourself on the outside. His message is just always to play our football. Like we are, to press high.
“He is making us feel that we should always stay calm, never worry, and he advises us exactly what to do. And this is what we are doing.
“It’s game by game. But it is all in our hands.
“Top four can happen but it depends all on us.”

The 28-year-old has just over a year remaining on his current contract and will be available on a free transfer at the end of next season.
Football Insider report that Chelsea are planning to open talks with Rudiger in the coming weeks, with the hope a long-term deal can be agreed,
Should those talks not reach a satisfying conclusion, Spurs are primed to make another bid for a player admired by Jose Mourinho.
The Spurs boss tried to sign Rudiger last summer and almost sealed a deal, before talks broke down regarding a loan fee.
The report claims that Chelsea were hoping to receive around £4million up-front fee, as well as Spurs being asked the full portion of his £150,000-per-week wages.
Spurs instead signed Joe Rodon from Swansea City, although the Welshman has struggled for game time in his first season in North London.
Meanwhile, Rudiger’s Chelsea teammate Fikayo Tomori is also potentially set to depart the club this summer, with the youngster impressing out on loan with AC Milan.
Tomori joined the Rossoneri on loan in January, with the Italian giants holding an option to make the deal permament at the end of the campaign.
Asked about activating that clause worth around £21.5million, Milan’s technical director Paolo Maldini said: “We have an option to buy for Tomori, it’s up to us to evaluate whether we activate it or not. As for the players whose contracts are running down, we include Zlatan as well, and we have weekly discussions about that too. All I can say is there isn’t much news to tell you.”
