Tottenham could be forced to dip into the January transfer market for a forward after learning that Richarlison faces weeks on the sideline with a hamstring injury. The Brazil striker suffered the issue in the warm-up of his country’s World Cup quarter-final defeat against Croatia but is likely to have aggravated the problem after playing for 84 minutes.
Spurs have been linked with signing a new attacker, regardless of Richarlison’s fitness. But that now becomes a necessity if Antonio Conte is going to keep his side’s Champions League challenge alive.
Express Sport picks out for players who could arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next month.
Lautaro Martinez
Spurs have long been linked with a move for Argentine attacker Lautaro Martinez. They came close to signing the 25-year-old in the summer of 2021 and tried again in 2022 – but to no avail.
Martinez has earned a reputation as one of Serie A’s best forwards with Inter Milan. But there has been a sense that he could test himself in the Premier League.
Spurs will be one of the favourites to sign him should Inter make him available, with their financial issues well known. Martinez has scored eight goals across all competitions this season and his ability to chip in with important goals would be beneficial to his former Inter boss Conte.
Victor Osimhen
Alternatively, the north Londoners could rival Manchester United for the signing of Napoli star Victor Osimhen. The Red Devils have been linked with the Nigerian since early in the summer transfer window and could now step up their pursuit following the sudden departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Osimhen has enjoyed a remarkable season in Italy. The 23-year-old has bagged nine goals in 11 Serie A appearances and has a further strike in the Champions League.

Memphis Depay
If Spurs want to add a bit more experience to their front line, they could add former United winger Depay. The Dutchman could be the easiest player to acquire in January as Barcelona are looking to sell in a bid to balance their finances.
Depay has played just twice in La Liga this season – amounting to just 116 minutes on the pitch. But he would be mostly fully fit having featured for the Netherlands at the World Cup. Spurs could bag a bargain if they prise the 28-year-old from Spain for a nominal fee.
Marcus Thuram
The son of France icon Lilian Thuram, Marcus, has forged an impressive career of his own. The younger Thuram is currently second in the Bundesliga scoring charts this season, with his 10 goals for Borussia Monchengladbach just two fewer than Chesea-bound Christopher Nkunku.
Thuram rekindled his place in the France squad just prior to the World Cup, and an assist off the bench against Poland has helped Didier Deschamps’ on their way to the semi-finals. The 25-year-old might hope that some positive performances in Qatar will see his stock soar ahead of the transfer window.
