Tottenham chief Daniel Levy may be set for transfer regret after Sergio Reguilon twist
Tottenham: Sergio Reguilon makes Spurs ‘better’ says Ogden
Tottenham supremo Daniel Levy is a savvy negotiator. Everybody knows the Spurs chief is hard as nails and doesn’t hold any prisoners. But, amid claims Sergio Reguilon is keen to return to Real Madrid and the La Liga giants want him back, he could be set for some feelings of regret.
Tottenham signed Reguilon from Real Madrid back in the summer transfer window.
Jose Mourinho wanted a new left-back and, with the Spain international sparkling for Sevilla on loan as they won the Europa League last term, he was sold.
Mourinho felt the 24-year-old ticked all the boxes for his side. He believed Reguilon could be his new Ashley Cole or Marcelo, players who helped him win trophies at Chelsea and Real Madrid.
So far, he’s been proven right.
Reguilon has been impressive for Tottenham this term, sparkling despite the club recently hitting a rough patch under Mourinho.

And Real Madrid now appear to want him back.
Spanish website OkDiario claim Los Blancos are eager to re-sign the left-back and, due to a clause in the defender’s contract, it’s beyond Tottenham’s control.
The La Liga giants insisted on a buyback clause when they let the 24-year-old go and Levy obliged.

Less than a year on, however, the Tottenham supremo could be about to regret agreeing to that clause during negotiations back in the summer.
Reguilon is said to be keen on a move back to Real Madrid. He dreamed of making it at the Bernabeu and, if a second chance presents itself, it seems he’ll jump at the opportunity.
Real are a special club. Having failed to make the grade earlier in his career, Reguilon would find the prospect of a return too tantalising to ignore.
He’s loving life at Tottenham. Breaking coronavirus regulations on Christmas day aside, it’s been a stirring start to his career in north London.
But if Spurs lose him, it’ll be a substantial blow.
Especially as world-class left-backs are hard to come by these days. Even Andy Robertson of Liverpool, widely regarded as the best on the planet, has experienced a drop-off in form.
Tottenham were right to sign Reguilon in the first place.
He offers them an exciting dimension in attack and is defensively sound, often using his rapid pace to get back and close the gap on opposition attackers.
But they were wrong to agree to the clause.
It means the ball is in Real’s court. And every indication is they’ll use that buyback clause when the transfer window reopens at the end of the campaign.
Reguilon talked up Real when speaking back in November, admitting he would be ‘nothing’ without them.
“It’s very difficult to go from the academy to the first team at Real Madrid,” he said.
“You have the best players in the world there and the level needed to get into the squad is very high.
“You have to believe in yourself, to know how to fight, and to get that little bit of luck that every player needs in his career.
“Real Madrid is the club where I was made, the club where I grew up, and I would be nothing without them.
“Leaving was a difficult step to take but it’s one you have to take at one point or another and, for me, I think it was the right time.
“It’s tough to leave your family and everything, but this league, for me, is the best in the world and I am very happy here. Now I just want to focus on trying to help this club win trophies.”
And, now, a return could be said to take place.
