Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy must ask himself a serious question if Jose Mourinho fails to delivers Champions League football next season. Missing out on the lucrative European spots would be a major blow to the north Londoners.

It would make it difficult to keep some of their top stars, including Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

They would also lose some of their appeal to new transfers without the lure of those entertaining mid-week battles under the lights.

Tottenham are seventh in the table following their latest 3-1 defeat to Manchester United, six points behind fourth-placed West Ham.

And former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor reckons Mourinho need to axe four of his defenders if he is to finish in the top four, which could save his job.

The ex-Aston Villa hitman was asked about centre-back Joe Rodon, who joined from Swansea last summer.

“I’m not too sure about him, to be honest,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.

“I feel he’s a good player but he’s not going to take Spurs to where they want to go.

“Spurs want to get into the Champions League places and want to win things. Rodon, Sanchez, Alderwerield, Dier are not going to get them there. They need a whole new back four.”

Meanwhile, one person who knows very well the presusre put on a manager by Levy is former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp.

And he reckons Mourinho will need to finish in the top four to make this season a successful one.

“I think the only way it will be deemed a success by the owners and people than run the club, Joe Lewis and Daniel Levy, is Champions League football next season,” Redknapp told talkSPORT.

“Anything other than Champions League football will be deemed as a massive failure.

“If they don’t make the Champions League I think it will be a really disappointing year for Tottenham, even if they win the Carabao Cup. The top four is a must for them.”

A number of names have been linked with replacing Mourinho should he be axed, including Scott Parker and Maurizio Sarri.

Express Sport understands Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo is also under consideration.
