Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho needs to sign a “world class” replacement for goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, according to former England defender Danny Mills. Lloris has come under criticism for his performances in goal in recent weeks. Mourinho has backed the France No 1 to rediscover his top form.
Mourinho has stuck by Lloris despite some claims that Joe Hart should be given a chance between the sticks.
But Mills believes it is a position that needs strengthening in the summer transfer window.
The former Leeds right-back does not think Lloris has ever been at a “world class” level.
Mills says Lloris’ inconsistencies have not helped the defence in front of him.

“I know he’s won the World Cup and has been a very, very good goalkeeper but I never thought he was world class,” Mills told Football Insider.
“If you want to start winning the Champions League, getting in the top four you need a world-class goalkeeper.
“There are very few teams that have won the Premier League or Champions League without a very good goalkeeper and I’m talking exceptional.
“His mistakes aren’t howlers, they’re not glaring errors but you look at it and go ‘I think he could have done better in that scenario’.

“That’s what it is. When you haven’t got an incredible defence in front of you it just puts everybody on edge a little bit.
“The goalkeeper is thinking ‘I can’t trust the defenders’ and the defenders are thinking ‘I cannot trust the goalkeeper’. All of sudden it causes a little bit of indecisiveness.”
Speaking earlier this week, Mourinho compared Lloris’ situation with that of Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson.
Alisson was guilty of high-profile errors during the recent defeats to Manchester City and Leicester.
Mourinho said of Lloris: “When a player is a top player, it’s not because of one mistake or two or three that means he’s not a top player again. That’s the most important thing.
“For me Alisson is one of the top five best goalkeepers in the world and in the last couple of matches, not yesterday, but in the matches before he’s made big mistakes but he’s one of the top five goalkeepers in the world.
“And Hugo is the same. He’s an amazing, amazing goalkeeper that is performing super consistently since he recovered from that fracture.
“Since my time here, he is recovering so well. If he had responsibility in one or another goal we conceded recently, he’s still the same goalkeeper.
“He’s my No.1 choice and he has all my trust and my confidence.”
