Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has reportedly told Daniel Levy to sign Gareth Bale over Eden Hazard. Both players have struggled for regular action at Real Madrid this term. And with Carlo Ancelotti picking other players instead, talk of them leaving the Santiago Bernabeu behind has arisen.

Tottenham recently hired Conte as their new manager, with the Italian replacing Nuno Espirito Santo – who was sacked after just four months in charge.

And with the Italian wanting to work wonders in north London right away, he could be backed in the January transfer window.

Tottenham now have a genuinely elite coach and, historically, Conte has spent big money everywhere he’s been.

Now, OkDiario chief Eduardo Inda has claimed on El Chiringuito that the former Chelsea, Juventus and Inter Milan boss has turned down the chance to sign Hazard.

That’s despite Daniel Levy being keen on bringing the Belgium international to north London.

And it’s stated that Conte actually wants to land Bale, who has previously spent two stints with Spurs.

Inda said: “Daniel Levy would like to take a Real Madrid player who is always injured.

“He wanted to sign Eden Hazard, but Conte has told him ‘no’ because he knows him from when he trained at Chelsea and says that he has little intensity and that he is not a very hard worker.

“The most striking thing is the player that Conte has asked Levy to take him to London. He is Gareth Bale.

“Bale ends his contract at the end of the season, but in winter he would not be free.”

Bale was a big hit during his first spell at Tottenham.

He helped the club win the EFL Cup back in 2008, with Spurs yet to win a trophy in the long time since.

And though Bale toiled under Jose Mourinho last term, he still managed a modest 13 goals across all competitions.

Real would be happy to get the Welshman off the wage bill, especially given their interest in snaring Kylian Mbappe.

But whether Tottenham are successful in bringing Bale back, yet again, remains to be seen.

Speaking in September, Bale said he had a ‘great time’ back at Tottenham.

“I’ve always had a great relationship with Carlo,” he said of Ancelotti.

“But it’s still the same in the sense that you have to forget that and give your all for the team.

“I had a good pre-season and a good start to the season, and it’s always nice to be in a good environment.

“That’s the main reason I went to Tottenham, as I knew it would be a good environment for me.

“It was a break I needed at the time, and I had a great time.

“It got me back to a happier place, and I think that showed again when I played for Wales at Euro 2020 and when I returned to Madrid this season.”

Bale has made just three La Liga appearances for Real this term, scoring once.

And he’s also played in three Champions League matches, though is yet to score in that competition.

Hazard, meanwhile, has just one assist from 10 outings in La Liga.
